Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Kitchen Makeover

Well, we did it. We spent one whole week completely transforming Briee’s kitchen with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, and the result is incredible.

Hi, friends! I am so thrilled about the project I get to share with you today. In case you missed my last post, allow me to give you a recap of my latest project:

“My friend, Briee, just bought her first home! Briee’s husband, Ryan, is the pastor of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church in our town. They have become our best friends over the four years we’ve all lived in Alta. Ryan and Briee recently accepted a call to serve in a church in Carroll, Iowa, about an hour away from where we all live now. Briee’s new home is a gorgeous Craftsman style house that is similar to my home in a lot of ways (except one). The kitchen is kind of new. The previous owners remodeled the kitchen within the last five years. It has nice cabinets, a stone backsplash, and granite counters. The only problem? It is dark, which is not Briee’s dream. We are spending one week making over Briee’s kitchen with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, and I can’t wait to share the whole process with you!”

Here’s a reminder of what the kitchen looked like before (one week ago if you can believe it!)

And after a week of hard work, a bunch of chalk paint, some grout, and new DIY basket light pendants, Briee has a dream kitchen.

Can you even believe that this is the same space? Obviously it still has the same layout and appliances, but the style transformation is crazy!

We made these light fixtures with planters from Hobby Lobby! This allowed us to keep the existing fixture and simply swap out the dated shades for something one-of-a-kind and budget friendly. I’ll write about the process in a post later!

IMG_0641IMG_0640IMG_0642There is a darling powder bathroom just off of the kitchen. It has beautiful tile and beadboard. Briee wants to install fun wallpaper above the beadboard down the road!IMG_0659IMG_0661

Briee is so happy with her new kitchen, and it is ready for her to move in today! We had a blast spending the week together, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to help Briee have a kitchen she adores.

Stay tuned this week for more posts about how we completed this makeover, how to make your own DIY basket lights, the budget breakdown, and more!

  1. This is absolutely one of my favorite makeovers of all time! The kitchen was just fine the way it was, but these changes took it to a whole new level! I can’t wait to hear how you did the light shades! In my eyes, those are the crowning touch. Just WOW!

  2. Amanda

Will you be doing a backsplash tutorial? We bought a new house and I would love to achieve the same look down the road! Amazing job!

  3. Ashley Casserly

Wow! Beautiful job! Loved following along on IG. You both made a beautiful kitchen even better. Congrats, and Welcome Home, Bree!

  4. Karen

Love it. I like that you framed out the window over the sink in black. Makes the countertop look more intentional.

  5. Marian

It looks amazing! You did such a good job! I appreciate how you storied all the different painting steps. I’ve used chalk paint before, but didn’t know how to get rid of brush strokes.

  6. Mary McRuer

It really turned out GREAT ❣️ I’m so glad you had quality cabinets to start with …. amazing how the change of color makes the whole room seem so much larger 👍😍

  7. Kelly H

Love the way you updated backsplash! It looks like it was meant to be that way! Also just all of it…it’s all amazing.

  8. I can’t believe what you guys have done! We’re moving home soon and have plans to paint the wooden kitchen. I’ve taken so many tips from you, like sanding between coats.

  9. This looks so beautiful, Avery and Briee! I’m really impressed you got it all done within your timeline too. The whole look is so classic and fresh. Hope it makes you happy for many years to come 🙂

Is the duck egg blue color a light or deep gray blue, your kitchen looks light but the sample looks much darker, I prefer the lighter, love your kitchen
