How Do You Spend a Snow Day?

This morning, I woke up in a snow globe. The ground was clear last night, but this morning Alta was covered in a thick layer of fluffy snow! We had a slow morning with bagels and coffee, and plenty of staring out the windows at the winter wonderland. My grandma gave us a snowman accessory kit for Christmas, so we decided to build a snowman! I love his little pipe and scarf. (Here’s an affordable accessory kit from Amazon). Louie wasn’t very fond of Mr. Snowman, but she did love the snow!

We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging around, reading books (currently reading this book and can’t put it down!), having tea, and then watching a new TV show. I recently read a post about making snow cream, and decided to give it a try. What I didn’t know is that it is THE EASIEST THING IN THE WORLD!

  • Grab a bowl
  • Scoop up 4 cups of clean, untouched snow
  • Mix together with 1/2 cup of milk
  • Add some sugar (1/4 cup)
  • And a teaspoon of vanilla.

We were out of sugar so I used milk and 1/2 cup of hot chocolate mix. It was yummy! We only ate a tiny bit but I ran the rest over to our neighbor kids that were also having a snow day. I put the mix in the freezer for about 30 mins to make it more like ice cream, but you can also eat it right away.

We enjoy using snow days as an unexpected excuse to rest. Even on a Monday, when I had ambitious plans to finally unpack from Paris and give the house a good scrub, it’s good for me to slow down and remember that my identity isn’t in my productivity. (My husband has to remind me of this over and over and over.) Depending on the weather overnight, tomorrow might be a snow day, too!

How do you like to spend your snow days? Do you like to get outside, or prefer to cozy up with a good book?
