Holland Avenue

Every day

Hi, friends!

I’ve taken a short break from posting recently to plan a new series that is a little different than previous content here on Holland Avenue Home. Most of my posts are about projects I’ve completed around our house with Ben. This new series I’m writing will be more about what goes on within your home instead of the house itself.

I recently heard the quote “What you do every day matters more than what you do every once in a while”. I was quite convicted by this, because I realized my daily habits are not healthy ones. Sure, I spend focused time in prayer every once and a while. I take care of my body every once and a while. I tend to my home every once and a while. It’s not that I’m incapable of forming habits. It’s just easier to unconsciously form comfortable and potentially unhealthy ones. I didn’t consciously choose to form the habit of looking at Instagram every morning- I just do it. I don’t have to consciously choose to not to drink water. I just forget. The list goes on and on. Housework piles up. Pounds pile on my body, and gunk and sin piles on my soul.

I think that the Lord has put a desire in my heart to pursue healthy habits. And any “habit” will only be “healthy” if it is done with the Lord.

My goal is to pursue a worshipful lifestyle of abiding with the Lord in every area of my life. This new series will be about creating healthy and worshipful rhythms that make my ‘every day’ less distracted and more on purpose. I’d like to invite you to join me! We will walk through three areas of life that require “every day” tending. Home, soul, and body.

What will it look like? It’ll look like working together to find the best rhythms for YOUR every day- not mine or anyone else’s. What will it NOT look like? I can definitely tell you that it won’t look like a list of rules or guilt or shame. It will look like a lot of grace and “on purpose” decisions.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey towards healthy and worshipful rhythms of abiding with the Lord. We’ll get started next week with the most concrete of the three areas: the home.

Thanks for reading!
